Pies and Coffee

So we were out on one of our regular Saturday jaunts, when the Wife decided she wanted to chill in a more 'atas' environment this time round. Fine and dandy, I'm always up for more 'atas' things to do (though my wallet probably doesn't agree)!

So we headed to Robertson Quay, intending to cafe-hop. As it turned out, it was a bloody hot day, and after walking to and fro for a little while, we decided on this quaint little place simply named :

The interior was reminiscent of cafes in Australia, and was what drew us here. The pies and cakes  looked REALLY inviting.
 Don't you agree??
We spent a couple of minutes checking out the menu, and I must say, they have really nice staff. They were helpful and informative without being too pushy. I hate pushy staff. I eat what I want, not what YOU think is good. I can make my own judgements thank you very much. Sorry I digress.

The Wife as always, had a craving for something sweet. She settled on a creme brulee with a slight twist. It was infused with coffee! I'm not a big caffeine fan unless it's Coke, so trust me when I say I can't tell the difference between a bean from Java or a bean from God knows where. But what I DO know is my beef, and I LOVE beef, so the natural choice for me - Shepard's Pie.

So here's the verdict : The creme brulee was okay, but I would have liked it sweeter. Like the Wife, I too have a sweet tooth. A VERY sweet one at that. There was a little kick at the end thanks to the coffee in the base. Interesting, but could have been executed better.

And my Shepard's Pie. I would just like it on record : I won't be having this again if I come back. There wasn't much flavour in the stuffing, and the potato on top was blandddd.
Oh...I did order a hazelnut latte to share with the Wife. She said it was decent, but I wasn't allowed to add the amount of sugar syrup I would have liked, so I didn't like it much. I would have preferred the shot of hazelnut syrup to have a much stronger taste though.

Unfortunately, I got engrossed playing with my camera and taking pictures of our new shades so I forgot about the drinks...but here are our shades!

Anyway the drink were just average to me, so nothing much to shout about. Not BAD, but not good either. Once this blog has a few more entries, you will start to realise I say that a alot. Not BAD, but not good either.

Though we only tried 2 food items, and both didn't make any impression, I think we would still come back for the ambience. The  place was quiet and the setting was great for conversation. It seems like a great place for just hanging out and talking to friends. But if you are looking for jaw-dropping and foodgasm-inducing Pies and Coffee, this ain't it.

They seem proud of their freshly ground coffee as well, so maybe someone can tell me if their coffee is really good?
To end off, I would like to try their house jam next time!

Price range - <$20
